Continuous Professional Development -Support Scheme (CPD – SS)

The Continuous Professional Development Support Scheme (CPD–SS) is funded by the HSE to facilitate Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs) who are not in training posts to maintain and enhance their clinical knowledge and skills and to fulfil the Medical Council requirements regarding professional competence.

The CPD-SS has been developed with a view to providing NCHDs who are not enrolled in specialist training with professional educational/training courses and activities to assist the NCHD with fulfilling some of the requirements of their Professional Competence Scheme. NCHDs can apply for the CPD-SS if they:

  • Hold NCHD Contract 2010 and work in the Irish public health service
  • Are registered on the General Division or Supervised Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council
  • Are currently enrolled in a Professional Competence Scheme as required by law

Access

To access the scheme in 2020/21, NCHDs should have registered with a Training Body before 30 September 2020. Eligible NCHDs can then access financial support for training and educational activities of up to 20 external credits or 3 days per annum, whichever is greatest.
